Production log

Image
Above I have completed a production log which tells you on what dates I have completed each piece of pre-production documentation. I have completed it so it allows me to see me journey with my work and also lets me keep track of things efficiently. I have presented it in a simple table with 2 columns as I believe this is what is necessary for an action plan - there is no need to over complicate things.

Location Recce

Image
Above I have completed a location recce which is a pre-filming visit to a location to determine its suitability shooting, including access to necessary facilities and assessment of any potential lighting or sound issues and is closely related to location. The reason I have completed this is because it allows me try and eliminate any issues before hand to allow filming on the day run as smoothly as possible, it also lets me make a final decision whether the locations are in fact suitable in the first place or not and if so what I am going to do about this. I have presented my location recce in the format of a table for the simple fact it is clear and easy for anyone to understand - it also has a professional feel to it. I feel as though this piece of pre-production will have a positive impact on my short film as it plays a vital part in organisation and suitability.

Call Sheet

Image
Above I have completed a call sheet. I have completed this piece of pre-production as it helps with so many aspects of filming, it effectively answers the who, when, what and where questions that come up frequently on shoot day - it helps not only me as the producer but all of the actors/actresses too. I have presented this information in a table as it is clear and easy to follow, as well as this it looks professional. I feel as though it will have a positive impact on my pre-production work and a positive impact upon actually filming my short film as again it will answer all of the who, when, what and where questions on the day of filming.

Film Treatment

Image
Above I have completed a film treatment for my production. The reason I have completed this is to help me plan every single scene and step within my short film. Treatments are used primarily as a way to communicate - before the screenplay is written - what a screenplay will be about, and what will happen within it. It's thought as a form of prewriting. I have presented it in the above format as it just keeps things simple and easy for anyone as well as myself to understand, by making things complex there is a risk a loss of communication between me and the reader may occur. The way I have used short , simple but clear paragraphs to me is more effective. By making this treatment it simply allows things to flow for me, it will have a positive impact because it allows me to let me thoughts and ideas flow.

Meeting notes video

Image
Above I have inserted a video of my meeting notes. During this video I discussed the plot of my short film and what it will consist of. I have completed this piece of pre-production so I can receive feedback from my class mates and whether there is any improvements I need to make and where I can excel my plan as well as my short film itself. I have presented these notes/pitch through a video as I feel it is nice and clear to me as well as helpful as it allows me to hear back real time feedback from my peers. These meeting notes will have a positive impact on my pre-production work as it allows me to listen back to the feedback I got and allows me to make corrections and any changes that may boost the results of my short film in the long run.

Risk Assessment

Image
Above I have completed a risk assessment table to show the risks that may come with filming a production. I have completed it so I am able to weigh out risks and any actions I need to take to prevent any accidents/incidents happening when my filming takes place, it also allows me to weigh up the level of risk and if it will be a major or minor issue for me and my team. I have presented this information in a table because it is clear and easy for me to follow as well as being professional and effective. I feel as though by completing this piece of pre-production it will have a positive impact on my short film as it allows both me and my peers to be safe and allows us to take any necessary actions to prevent any incidents, it shows I am using initiative and care.

Location Permission/Clearances

Image
Above this is my proof of location permissions/clearances. I have completed this because without permission I wouldn't be able to film in particular locations which would hold back my filming process. I have shown this piece of documentation through emails as this is what the permission request and reply was originally sent/received on therefore it has been shown this way. This piece of pre-production will have a positive impact on my filming process as it means I am able to film in my desired locations meaning my content will be good quality.

Source of finance table

Image
Above I have created a source of finance table - I have completed this and I have chosen to present it in this format so I am able to clearly see a break down of all different source of finance and so I am also able to see the pros and cons side by side.  This is helpful as it gives me a clearer insight to which source of finance would be most useful for my production - it allows me to weigh out the pros and cons of each and push me to make my final decision. Personally for me I will self-fund my film trailer  because it won't be a huge production therefore meaning the budget will be low which means I am able to use my own money rather than having to source it from somewhere else which in the long term would effect me negatively.

Contingency plan

Image
Above I have completed a contingency plan which allows me to look at any problems that may occur during the filming process and how these will be resolved, I have completed this piece of pre-production as it lets me be prepared prior to filming so if any is to go wrong I know how to handle the situation effectively and professionally. I have presented this information in a table as I believe tables are always the most clear and efficient way of displaying information. It will have a highly positive impact on my filming process as it allows me to be prepared for anything that could possibly go wrong.

Storyboard

Image
I have completed a storyboard for my film trailer as it helps to reveal whether my concept will work or not and helps to determine the direction the course is going to take. I have presented my film trailer in the format of a storyboard as it helps me clearly see all scenes I need to film and helps make it clear to others too - it makes production much easier. This storyboard includes the shots I need, the duration they will be shot for and the order they'll be laid out as well as all of these factors, it saves me time because in the long run it will help my creation process run more smoothly.

Pre-Preduction PowToon Powerpoint

In order to create this presentation we looked into Sky Storm productions  https://skystorm.com/pre-production-a-case-study/ . This website displays the strengths of their studio and the steps they have to take in order to be successful at pre-production. The website looks into different specific areas such as financing, plan B ideas, processes, clients, recourses and budgeting. Our task was to specifically look at the strengths of Sky Storm Production and what has made them so successful whilst the other group in my class analysed the weaknesses. The process of researching itself was very important as it gave us an insight into what the company is all about. We had to look at the process itself, documentation completed, meeting the needs of the client, usefulness of pre-production elements, management of budget and resources and we hd to find specific examples to justify our arguments. We discovered as a group the strengths and some of these were that Sky Storm Productions clients h

SWOT analysis

Image
This SWOT analysis allows me to clearly see/weigh out all the different factors that contribute towards horror films. The reason I have chosen to put all of this information into a SWOT analysis table is because it is clear and organised for me and helps me to see the information with no complications for me or the reader. By me completing this it will have a positive impact on my project in the sense it allows me to weight out pro's and con's of the horror genre and whether it is something I wish to pursue after further research and looking at this table.

Equipment booking/hire

Image
This piece of pre-production is my equipment booking proof. I have completed it because it means I am guaranteed the equipment I require on my requested days. I have completed my booking in this table because this is what was provided in lessons to ensure everyone got the equipment they needed on the desired day - it was done fairly. This will have a positive impact upon my filming process as it means I can prepare for the days I am going to be shooting - it allows me to gather everything I need in time for shooting such as costumes and props.

One Mile Away Case Study

Image

Release Form

Image
Above I have completed a release form which is a piece of documentation that an actor fills in prior to filming to tell me they accept the process of what is going to happen, it also gives me their emergency contact details to ensure help is available in case of an accident. I have presented this on a simple and easy to understand letter - I have also looked at industry standard release forms and they're very similar to the one I have completed above.

Parental consent form

Image
Above I have inserted a parental consent form. This is a piece of documentation that parents of actors who aren't 18 or over sign to say they give permission for their son/daughter to partake in the filming of my production. I have presented this in a simple and short letter that is straight to the point and clear for people to understand - this will have a positive impact on my filming process as it gives me all the permission I need and allows all the filming to go ahead.

Budget

Image
Above I have completed a budgeting table - this allows me to work out how much things in the filming process should cost me compared to how much things will actually cost me. I have completed this as it allows me to set myself a budget and lets me see if I am able to afford what comes with the filming process or if I will have to re-think my options. I have put all of this information into a clear and easy to understand table with good headings so anyone can understand it. This piece of pre-production will have a positive impact on my filming process.

Action Plan

Image
I have completed this pre-production activity because it has helped me plan out what steps I need to take before filming to make sure it is successful and organised. The process I went though to create this action plan was to produce a mind map of all all the elements involved in pre-production which helped break things down and make it clear to me. I think it will have a positive impact on my production project because by creating a plan it will enable me to put as much detail into my content as possible.

Unit 4: Learning Aim A Report

In this report, I will be discussing the  3 case studies I have been look ing into   which are films  –  ‘ Monsters ’ ,  ‘ World War Z ’   and  ‘ One Mile A way ’ .  ‘ Monsters ’  is all about monsters that are trying to invade the U.S border,  ‘ World War Z ’  is about a zombie invasion that features Br ad Pitt. Then finally  ‘ One Mile A way ’  is a documentary in Birmingham that discusses and follows the lives of gang members. The aims of the report are to investigate the effectiveness of each case study and whether they were successful or unsuccessful   when it comes to pre-production.  Pre-production is basically the breakdown of all the work done on a project, overall this study will be mainly based on the pre-production side of each case study. The purpose of pre-production is so producers can clearly see  in what direction their production may go and what steps they need to take to be successful, it also gives the producers a clearer understanding of their material.
